Renesas Opens Beijing Physical AI & Robotics Lab to Accelerate the Next Wave of Intelligent Machines
Renesas Electronics is strengthening its position in physical AI with a new dedicated robotics innovation hub in Beijing, China, targeting faster development and deployment of next-generation robotic systems.
Renesas Electronics Corporation has officially opened its Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing, creating a dedicated environment where customers, startups, universities and ecosystem partners can demonstrate, validate and co-develop robotics technologies from early proof-of-concept stages through deployment.
The move comes shortly after Renesas established its Physical AI Division on July 1, 2026, highlighting the company’s growing focus on robotics as a strategic semiconductor opportunity.
Physical AI must sense its environment, make judgements, and carry out actions in real time, in contrast to traditional AI systems that operate mostly in digital worlds. As a result, the needs for semiconductors in processing, sensing, motion control, actuation, power management, communication, and software become more complicated.
Renesas is positioning its new Beijing facility as a system-level development platform rather than simply a product demonstration center. The lab will bring together hardware, software, AI modeling, sensing, control, and power and system verification to help customers evaluate complete robotic architectures.
The company says it currently addresses approximately 30% of the bill of materials (BOM) of a humanoid robot, with an ambition to expand that coverage to 70% through its capabilities in control, power, sensing, and AI, software and ecosystem technologies.
Why Beijing Matters for Robotics?
The new facility also reflects the growing importance of China in the global robotics ecosystem. According to Renesas, the country combines a large customer base, extensive supply-chain capabilities and strong collaboration among technology companies, universities and startups.
By establishing a physical AI hub in Beijing, Renesas aims to bring semiconductor expertise closer to robotics developers and shorten the path from technology validation to commercial implementation.
The lab will support collaboration across the complete engineering lifecycle, enabling customers to test integrated solutions and address system-level challenges before moving toward large-scale deployment.
