Covestro Expands Robotics Push with Dual Partnerships in China
In an attempt to solidify its position in the quickly expanding robotics and smart logistics industry, the German materials giant Covestro inked important Memorandums of Understanding with China’s Hikrobot and Carthane during CHINAPLAS 2026. The collaborations are aimed at supporting innovation in parcel sorting, e-commerce operations, factory automation, and intelligent manufacturing.
The move highlights;
- Covestro’s growing focus on advanced materials for robotics applications, where performance, durability, and precision are becoming increasingly important. By combining its materials expertise with the robotics capabilities of both partners, the company is looking to support systems that require lightweight, impact-resistant, and long-lasting components.
- Covestro’s President of Engineering Plastics, Lily Wang, states that “Covestro is evolving from a material supplier to a strategic enabler across the robotics value chain.
In particular, Covestro’s advanced polymers are being positioned for use in structural parts, housings, and load-bearing elements in robotic systems. As automation continues to expand across industries, the role of materials science is becoming more central to improving efficiency and reliability.
Xie Mingqiang, Hikrobot’s vice president and head of supply chain, said, “The Company looks forward to achieving more breakthroughs together at both the technology and product levels.”
The partnerships also reflect a broader industry shift, where robotics innovation is increasingly driven not just by software and mechanics, but by the materials that make high-performance systems possible. Covestro’s latest move underscores its ambition to play a larger role in this fast-evolving industrial landscape.
