Cohu Secures Orders for GaN Power Device Testing in AI Data Centres
Cohu has received multiple orders totaling approximately $5 million for its DiamondX test platform, underscoring growing demand for advanced semiconductor testing solutions in AI data-centre applications. The systems will be used to support the development and manufacturing of next-generation gallium nitride, or GaN, power devices, which are becoming increasingly important in high-efficiency power architectures for AI infrastructure.
The latest orders highlight how quickly data-centre power requirements are changing as AI accelerators and high-performance processing nodes continue to drive higher power density. With thermal constraints becoming more difficult to manage, operators are rethinking power delivery systems to improve efficiency and reliability. GaN devices are emerging as a key enabler in that transition because of their ability to deliver higher efficiency and power density compared with conventional alternatives.

According to the company, the orders strengthen its position in the fast-growing AI data-centre market and reflect the rising need for test platforms that can support next-generation power semiconductors at scale. Cohu added that it continues to invest in advanced power test architectures aligned with customer demand across AI infrastructure, industrial electrification, and automotive electrification markets.
The development also signals a broader industry shift. As AI infrastructure expands, semiconductor companies are being asked not only to improve compute performance, but also to solve the power challenges that come with it.
