Diffusion is the movement of substances from high-concentration regions to low-concentration regions through molecular thermal motion. The silicon substrate can be doped with specific dopants by the diffusion process, thereby changing the conductivity of the semiconductor. Dopant cannot independently control dopant concentration and junction depth, so it is less and less used now. Annealing is a heating process that causes specific physical and chemical changes to the wafer and adds or removes small amounts of material from the surface of the wafer.
